Set of Instructions for the Nanny Customers

  1. You may ask your nanny not to enter certain rooms in your house, such as your bedroom or home office. This will apply mainly to live-in nannies. But you may want to let your day nanny know which rooms you'd prefer them not to go in, too.

There may be times that your nanny has to enter an out-of-bounds room, for example if your child goes in there. If you feel strongly about keeping some rooms private, consider adding locks to those doors.

Tell your nanny if there are any objects that shouldn't be touched, either by her or your child. This could be ornaments or even beloved books.

  2. Discuss what's acceptable as far as visiting is concerned. If you'd prefer not to have any strangers in your house, say so upfront.

  3. You may also want to ask them to keep personal calls brief when they're looking after your child.

  4. Your nanny has access to all sorts of personal information about you and your family. As a professional, they'll already know not to repeat anything.

  5. However, it's good practice not to leave out personal details such as bank statements or pay slips. Even if you completely trust your nanny, seeing them may make them uncomfortable.
